Lee Metcalf Wilderness |
|
The Lee Metcalf Wilderness was created by Congress in 1983 to preserve the fragile alpine beauty of the high peaks of the Madison Mountains. The high country in mid-summer is a panorama of spectacles with snow-capped peaks glimmering in the sunshine and alpine meadows brilliantly colored with wild flowers. The above-timberline cirques are dotted with crystal-clear lakes filled with alpine cutthroat trout. Our pack trips offer the visitor a chance to experience the beauty of granite peaks, permanent snowfields and dry fly fishing beyond compare. The days can be filled with unlimited activities from fishing the lakes and streams to exploring the high crags for bighorn sheep and mountain goats, to just plain relaxation. Come explore with us one of the most spectacular and awesome wilderness areas Montana has to offer. |

Hilgard Basin - A 10-mile pack reaches the north basin, which is a living museum of flora and fauna of the fragile alpine world. The basin itself is at an elevation of 9,000 feet above sea level and is rimmed by many peaks over 11,000 feet. The character of the country is that of alpine lakes, permanent snow fields and massive Precambrian granite rock formations This is a July or August trip and is geared for those who want some fishing but are mainly interested in exploring the vast beauty of the alpine world. |

West Fork of Beaver Creek - A 7-mile pack reaches Avalanche and Blue Danube Lake country. The basins and cirques are of the sub-alpine variety, the edge of the tree line, dominated by alpine fir and limber pine that give way to shear granite peaks and talus slopes that dominate the skyline. The fishing is excellent for alpine cutthroat trout in the crystal clear mountain lakes. There is also a golden trout lake nearby that offers some extremely challenging fishing. This is our premier trip for a family fishing vacation. The main emphasis is on fishing, fly fishing instruction, hiking and riding. The trip length is 4 days and is in late July or August. |
